5VERY PLEASED! Good for WIDE Doorways, Cats, and WIDE HIPS!Oct 01, 2009
By A. Walker "Newbie"
I purchased this gate to keep my cats out of my dining room turned into study. I didn't want to install a door as someday I may turn it back into a formal dining room. So I looked into the idea of a child's gate. Well I ran into two problems. My doorway is 48 in wide and most gates only go up to 42 in wide. I could only find wider one's online. Which made me hesitant in case I had to return it. I also figured with cats I needed a taller gate so that they would not be tempted to jump over it. So I narrowed it down to two gates. I got turned off by the other tall/wide gate as a reviewer said if you're even slightly on the heavy side you won't fit through the door. I'm a full figured girl so I wasn't going to spend that much money and not be able to get through the door. So I took a chance on the only other one available that fit my criteria tall/wide. I'm glad I did. The door is wide enough that I can get through while carrying my laptop without a problem. YES! It's also made very sturdy and didn't take very long to set up at all. One trick though. When opening the gate you have to lift up and push, the lifting up part got me for a few minutes as there aren't instructions on how to open the gate. All in all VERY STURDY! It's also very stylish compared to those cheap plastic or wood ones. I chose the black color so it wouldn't look so much like a child's gate and I'm very pleased. I will deffinetly buy this model agail when/if I ever have some little one's of my own instead of a regular child's gate. Especially since the height makes it so much easier to open! I will recommend this model to all of my mommy friends!

4nice gate, but there is betterJan 04, 2010

We have a kitchen with two door sized openings, one on either end. Two years ago when we moved in and our oldest child was not quite two we got two different gates. This one, and the Easy Step High-Guard Gate Color: Black. Of the two I prefer the Easy Step. They were both the same to install, and I like how this one opens both directions and how it snaps back closed is neat. But I would prefer that it stay open. If you get this gate and want it to stay open use a short bungee cord and hook one to the open side of the gate and one to the screw bar part. This will keep it open in case you need to walk through, like we do when we bring in groceries.

The thing I like the least about this style is that it is hard to close, you need to put your hand on it and push down with your whole body to get it to lock in place. And the locking pieces seem kinda flimsy being small pieces of plastic. But it hasn't broken yet. Sometimes one of the screw paces on the top (usually the one by the opening of the gate) will loosen and make it so the gate won't lock. This might be from normal use, from the dog jumping on it, or my almost 4yo playing with it*.

My almost 4yo can open the Easy Step, but I am not sure if she can get this one yet (since she just uses the Easy Step if she needs in the kitchen). I know she can not close it since you have to be taller then the gate to push down and get it to lock.

UPDATE: it was my oldest playing with it that made it loosen. She doesn't have the height required to properly open and close it so she was unscrewing the side to get it to open.

By AreYouKidding?
This is so much better than the first gate I bought from Target. (Avoid the Summer 07060C).

Pros:
- Sturdy
- Well made
- Super-tall
- Two exensions in the box for multiple-wdiths.
- It automatically closes.

Cons:
- Product price
- Target's shipping charge

3OK Gate.....Aug 25, 2011
By LB
I purchased two of these to baby proof our home for our twin boys. At first I was really pleased. However, my boys started pulling on the gate and found out if they pulled hard enough it would open. This rendered the gate useless. I've returned both and am going to try a different brand altogether. Also I was really trying to avoid permanently installing a gate but I feel I have no option but to do so as the pressure mount would slip from time-to-time also causing the gate to be useless. The opening to walk through the gate is also quite narrow so it made it difficult when carrying laundry or really anything beyond yourself. Don't understand the amazing reviews as this gate is just OK.

4it is what it isNov 19, 2010

I bought this particular baby gate because it was really the only thing that would fit where I needed it (an extra wide space next to the bottom of the stairs). The gate seems fine and has worked so far (been in place for 3 months). I have it in place with 2 10inch extensions. One does need to drill the mounting cups in place so this is sturdier than a tension mounted gate. The Dreambaby customer service was great and good thing too because I needed them, twice. Firstly, Amazon (it shipped from Amazon) did not include the mounting cups. Dreambaby got me new mounting cups within the week. As we set up the gate, the door didn't seem to work right. I got on the phone with Dreambaby. They asked me to email them a picture of what I had (hinges pieces and the gate door). My gate was apparently defective. Within 20 minutes of getting my email, Dreambaby shipped a second gate to me, no charge, no sending back the defective one. I speculate someone else had sent a defective gate to Amazon and that was why I got in the first place. So the gate is fine for what it is and if you have any problems go straight to Dreambaby for quick help.
